In the championship game, the Cougars defeated the UCLA Bruins 65-61. Murekatete, an all-conference honorable mention, had a strong game, particularly down the stretch.
The 22-year-old, who scored eight of her 21 points and dominated the paint in the fourth quarter, also added two blocks to help WSU hold onto a slim lead for the final 10 minutes. Murekatete completed 8 of 11 field goal attempts.
I had to really step it up and genuinely rise to the challenge in the fourth quarter because I knew we only had 10 minutes left if we wanted to make it another "first" (for the program), according to Murekatete.
After becoming the 22nd player in the history of the Cougars Women's Basketball team to reach 1000 career points, she was named to the team.
She is thought to be the first player from Rwanda to play in NCAA Division I women's basketball with her most recent accomplishment.
After averaging 10.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game in 2022, Murekatete was named the Pac-12 Conference's co-Most Improved Player of the Year.
She played for Rwanda at the 2015 FIBA Africa Under-16 Championship for Women while on intentional duty. She was named to the tournament's all-tournament team after averaging 14.3 points and a tournament-best 22 rebounds per game.
In particular, she had a notable 24 points and 37 rebounds in Rwanda's defeat to Tunisia.
She also represented the nation at the 2018 FIBA U18 Women's African Championship, where she led her team to a fourth-place finish while averaging 16.8 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. She was named to the tournament's all-tournament team.
