Tinubu Rushed Fuel Subsidy, which Cause Hardship On Nigerians, Former Adviser Of Buhari-Itse Sagay.

In an interview on Channels TV on Friday, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria made this statement and added that the President's abrupt removal of the petrol subsidy in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, caused immense hardship.

The Bola Tinubu administration, according to Prof. Itse Sagay, a former appointee of President Muhammadu Buhari who chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) from 2015 to 2023, ought to have waited until local petrol production started before eliminating the subsidy.
Sagay pointed out that Tinubu ought to have held off on eliminating the petrol subsidy for six months following his inauguration.

In an interview on Channels TV on Friday, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria made this statement and added that the President's abrupt removal of the petrol subsidy in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, caused immense hardship.

Sagay, who chaired PACAC from 2015 to 2023, stated that the Tinubu administration ought to have held off on cutting off subsidies for the luxury good until local petrol production had started.

Fuel is essential to our survival. Living expenses are rising, making even the necessities of life pricey. I believe we could have continued for another six months, at which point the subsidy might have been eliminated because internal production was approaching.

Sagay went on, "The decision to remove the petrol subsidy was made suddenly and immediately, which has created an immediate level of hardship that is almost unbearable."

"I disagree completely with the manner in which some things are currently being done. Regarding the petrol issue, I would have preferred it if the government had waited patiently to eliminate the subsidy after internal production had started.

Dangote is currently generating. Naturally, the Port Harcourt refinery is virtually complete. We would not have had such a severe shift if we had held off a little longer. Although we are already in it, I believe we are in capable hands and will overcome it.

After decades of receiving this subsidy, a few more months would not have killed us. Now you can see how the lifestyle has changed.

Sagay added that the "deterioration of the value of the naira" had to cease. "I never thought there would be a time when the dollar would change for more than N1,000 to a dollar," the man stated. It must end, or else it will undermine all of the government's initiatives.

Nonetheless, the top attorney conveyed faith in the incoming administration's capacity to offer the Nigerian people competent leadership.

They are knowledgeable individuals in their field. I have faith in them, and I think that with time, Nigerians will experience less suffering, less pressure, and a far better situation than we currently have," he remarked.
